Thatch structures

Pjd Thatch specializes in the construction and designing of Thatch roofs. We use CCA treated poles in our Thatch structures and apply poly urethane teak varnish on all pole structures.  Pjd Thatch uses Celcure Treated Seligna poles. Poles are treated according to S.A.B.S 753 & 754 specifications.

Thatched roof needs consistent maintenance or thatch repairs to prolong the life of the roof. Thatched Roofs  require maintenance due to  damage caused by monkeys, birds and overhanging trees as well as leaks and rotting. Poor workmanship caused by hiring cheap companies is another leading and frustrating cause of problems.

Thatch Roofs have a lifespan – it’s a fact,  No matter how well it is maintained. No matter how well it is Thatched and to what thickness it is thatched at. All Thatch roofs will eventually get to the point of no return and will need to be Stripped and Re Thatched.

We use Cape Reed as an inner layer in of all our specific build Thatch Roofs.
Thatch thickness is standard 150 -175mm on all roofs.

Thatching the interior finish forms an integral part of the overall roof design. Our design team will introduce you to the different internal structure options. Our options includes conventional and traditional designs as well as a variety of timber treatments.

The rafter poles are set closer together so they can give the interior a cozier, more distinctly cottage feel  in a conventional structure.

The clear timber treatment is ideal for those who find the normal dark poles oppressive. Our light colored poles impart a clean natural wood look and they are  Protected by our own unique SABS approved pressure treatment.
